Tuberculous peripheral lymphadenitis is an extrapulmonary form of tuberculosis involving the peripheral lymph nodes, most commonly the cervical lymph nodes. In developed countries, tuberculous lymphadenitis is uncommon, particularly in children. It is more frequently diagnosed in young adults between 20 and 40 years of age in countries with a high prevalence of tuberculosis, such as India and China, and in individuals with HIV infection or other causes of immunodeficiency. Cervical tuberculous lymphadenitis is often mistaken for a neoplasm.
