Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a disorder caused by a gastrin-secreting neuroendocrine tumor (gastrinoma). Excessive gastric acid secretion leads to the formation of peptic ulcers. The syndrome typically presents with abdominal pain, diarrhea, and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Less common manifestations include weight loss, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea, and vomiting. The primary goal of treatment is to control gastric acid hypersecretion with proton pump inhibitors.
