Brain Concussion
Description of the disease
Brain concussion is a closed head injury that causes temporary changes in mental status. It most commonly occurs as a result of motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, physical assaults, or falls. Diagnosis is based on the nature of the injury, presenting symptoms, and clinical signs. Typical symptoms include headache, slowed or foggy thinking, and memory difficulties. Symptoms may improve or worsen over time but usually resolve within one month. In more complicated cases, a head CT scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed.
