Anogenital Warts

Anogenital warts are viral lesions of the anogenital mucosa caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV). They typically present as flesh-colored, pink, or white papules that may coalesce into plaques. Lesions can range in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters and may occur anywhere in the anogenital region. Warts usually appear weeks to months after infection and are often asymptomatic. They most commonly affect individuals between 15 and 25 years of age. The diagnosis is based on the clinical presentation. Although several treatment options are available, none eradicate the underlying HPV infection; therefore, recurrence is common.
